Maree secure crucial away win

Maree travel to Dubliner to face Tolka Rovers on Saturday evening (8pm ) eager to maintain their momentum towards a play-off place.

Last weekend they moved into second place in the National League division one’s southern conference after a 77 - 62 win over Waterford.

That victory improves their prospects of a home tie in the play-offs. Liam Conroy with 20 points was top scorer for Maree.

Maree established an early lead with Con Crowley on the end of two fast breaks before Dave Hansberry took over with three inside baskets in a row. Denis Hogan kept Waterford in the game before the home side rallied to trail just four behind Maree at the quarter’s end.

Crucially Maree hit 23 points in the second quarter to Waterford ’s meagre six which put the Galway side into the driving seat. Ken Hansberry hit eight points before the half, Liam Conroy was good for nine, and Sarunas Zvirblinskas rebounded well and notched four, helping Maree to a 39-18 lead.

Waterford rallied again in the third, but threes from Crowley and Conroy ensured Maree’s lead was still comfortable at 58 – 35 before easing to a 77 – 62 win.

Maree: Darren Callanan (2 ), Sarunas Zvirblinskas (6 ), Colm O’Hagan (9 ), Liam Conroy (20 ), David Hansberry (16 ), Eddie Forde, Kenneth Hansberry (11 ), Don Crowley (13 ).
