The Cregmore Community Alert scheme is to receive a grant of €1,876 under the Government’s Community Support for Older People Scheme.
The funding allocated under the Community Support for Older People Scheme is used by voluntary community groups such as the Cregmore Community Alert which work with older people.
The money helps pay for small security measures including a contribution towards the installation of monitored personal alarm systems, the cost of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, external security lighting, and for small items like locks.
The news has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey.
“This is a small but important contribution from the Government towards the wonderful work carried out at community level to help older people feel safer in the homes,” he said. “I would like to commend the work done by groups such as the Cregmore Community Alert
