Further charges could be brought against a 37-year-old man accused of murdering two promising young jockeys, including Claregalway teen Jamie Kyne, who perished in a blaze at a UK block of flats last year.
Peter William Brown, with an address in Brotherton, North Yorkshire, appeared before a court in Leeds on Tuesday where it was revealed that British prosecutors plan to add manslaughter and arson with intent to endanger life to the indictment.
Brown, an unemployed builder, was arrested in connection with the blaze which ripped through a three-storey block of flats at Buckross Court, in Norton, near Malton, north Yorkshire, England, in the early hours of September 5, 2009.
Eighteen-year-old Jamie Kyne, from Kiltrogue, near Claregalway, and 19-year-old Jan Wilson, from Scotland, tragically lost their lives in the fire. Miss Wilson’s boyfriend, Ian Brennan (20 ), from Donaghmede, Co Dublin, narrowly escaped as did Dean Pratt (20 ) from Lismore, Co Waterford.
Mr Kyne whose family run Kiltrogue Stud was widely regarded as one of the world’s top young jockeys, having had 29 winners in one season.
Brown is due to face trial on April 26 next.
