The Fairtrade Fortnight has begun and with Joyces 365 and Oxfam getting in on the action there will be plenty of delights in store for customers for yet another week.
The Fair Trade Fortnight, with this year’s theme being “The Big Swap”, started last Monday and will continue until March 7.
To mark the event Joyces 365 is offering customers the opportunity to swap their regular purchases where possible for fair trade products.
By buying fair trade products you are helping to ensure that producers get a decent price for their goods and receive an extra premium to re-invest in their business, including strict regulation of environmental standards, and control of chemical contents in the goods they produce. Producers are also encouraged to manage their water sources carefully and ensure a stable balance in their ecosystems.
Joyces 365 stores carry an excellent range of fair trade goods many of which will be on promotion to help mark the Fair Trade Fortnight. Offers will run in stores until March 22.
Meanwhile, Galway’s Oxfam Fair Trade shop in Lower Abbeygate Street, has also been getting into the swing of the Fair Trade Fortnight.
“It’s wonderful to raise awareness about the importance of buying Fairtrade products. We are going to have a great day on February 27. We will have volunteers dressing up as Mrs Doyle, serving tea, and handing out sample tea bags to shoppers in the downtown area. At the shop, we’ll have a selection of our popular food items for sampling and we’ll be serving complimentary tea and coffee. Plus we’ll have €5 mystery gift bags for boys and girls. We want to remind Galway that our shop is stocked with an amazing selection of fairtrade products and it’s that time of year again to really think and buy fair trade,” says Agnes Sage, shop manager.
