Athenry’s All Ireland test

Athenry’s big chance to grab All Ireland honours takes place will now take place on Sunday in the Clarecastle GAA Pitch, Co Clare at 2pm.

This All Ireland Senior Club Camogie Championship final had been scheduled for last Sunday in Newbridge.

This decider is a replay of the 2007 final when their opponents Cashel of Tipperary won the day handsomely, but Athenry, with most of the same players involved, are both hungrier and more experienced this time round.

Having won four consecutive county finals and reached the All Ireland final in 2007, there is a greater sense of confidence in facing Cashel this year.

With the talismanic Therese Maher leading the side, aided by the experienced Brenda Kerins, and Alice Poniard, Kathryn Glynn, Krystel Ruddy, Regina Glynn, Laura Linnane, Sarah Donoghue, Mary Keogh, and Nicola Nally, who boast All Ireland final experience, hopes are high that Athenry, if they spark on the day, will claim the title.
