Three Galway people made tax settlements totalling close to a quarter of a million euro during the third quarter of the year, according to figures released by the Revenue Commissioners this week.
The largest Galway settlement came from Tom McEvaddy, a city-based property developer who paid a total of €679,308 in taxes, interest, and penalties arising from an underdeclaration of VAT and a Revenue audit case.
Brian Burke, a builder from Glenascaul, Oranmore, paid a total of €38,493.05 arising from an underdeclaration of income tax and a Revenue investigation into offshore assets.
Meanwhile Anthony Duane, a company director from Portumna, paid a total of €17,650 arising from an underdeclaration of income tax and a Revenue single premium insurance products case.
The total settlements from Galway came to €735,451.05.
The quarterly settlements bulletin lists those audit settlements where the Revenue Commissioners accepted a settlement of more than €12,700 (or €30,000 for some investigations ), including tax, interests, and penalties, instead of instituting proceedings for the recovery of the penalties. People who made voluntary disclosures prior to the beginning of an audit, or who paid fines and penalties amounting to less than 15 per cent of the tax due, are not included in the list.
