The St Vincent de Paul Society has opened two warehouses in the city and county to distribute clothing and household goods to people affected by the recent flooding
The facilities are located at Prospect Hill (opposite the County Buildings ) and at Calcool, Poolboy in Ballinasloe (opposite Garbally Oil ).
Coln Noonan, the SVP’s Galway area administrator, says anyone affected by the flooding is welcome to come to these centres.
“They will receive any available clothing and household goods that would be of assistance to them.”
He says the charity is grateful to the public for its “unprecedented” response to people affected by the flooding.
“We wish to thank the people who have contributed so generously during this crisis. At this point the society believes that sufficient clothing and household goods have been donated to enable us to respond to the needs of those affected by flooding and no further assistance of this nature is required at this time.”
He says the society acknowledges the “extreme difficulties” being faced by the families and individuals affected by the flooding in County Galway.
“To assist people in affected areas we are working at local level in co-ordination with community welfare officers, church representatives and local community groups to ensure that everyone affected receives the support they need.
“Members of the public affected by the flooding can contact us for information and support on the following phone numbers: Galway (091 ) 563233 and Ballinasloe (090 ) 9645707.”
As the floods go down and people return to their homes, there will be an ongoing need for financial support, according to Mr Noonan.
“In addition to funds already committed for flood relief by the society, we would be most grateful if people wishing to provide further support would donate to the society via the following accounts:
Galway: Allied Irish Bank, Lynch’s Castle, Galway. Sort Code: 93-70-96. Account Name: SVP Flood Relief Fund. Account Number: 63628927
Ballinasloe: SVP Account Number 989898 at Ballinasloe Credit Union.
