Cope is calling on the people of Galway to 'Shine A Light' this Christmas through the darkness of isolation affecting people in the city.
Cope Galway launched its Shine A Light Christmas appeal this week and according to Cope's Fintan Maher, there are several ways in which people can support the appeal – through a direct donation; become a regular donor by signing up to Cope Galway’s standing order appeal; or participate or sponsor others at several events between now and Christmas.
Cope's Christmas events include the Galway Sleep Out in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, the annual Christmas Day Swim in Blackrock, or the St Stephen’s Day Soccer tournament at Mervue United FC.
Cope is also running its Christmas Office and House Party initiatives for people to support their work while they party this Christmas.
In the past year Cope Galway provided more than 13,500 bed nights to women and men experiencing homelessness, a secure refuge to more than 170 women and 270 children experiencing domestic violence, and more than 45,000 meals to older people in Galway.
“By supporting the 'Shine A Light' Appeal the people of Galway will ensure that Cope can continue to bring light into the lives of the most vulnerable in our community during Christmas and throughout the coming year,” said Mr Maher.
To support Shine A Light this Christmas, donations can be made directly to Cope Galway, 2-5 Calbro House, Tuam Rd, Galway or through the bank to Bank of Ireland, Sort Code: 903816, Account Number: 39096396, on www.copegalway.ie or by calling 091 - 778750.
