No date yet for hurling final

The Galway SHC final, due to take place this weekend between Portumna and Loughrea has been postponed. It remains uncertain whether Mullagh will bring an appeal to a higher authority about their dramatic semi-final loss to Loughrea.

Mullagh are adamant the match with Loughrea should be replayed because former Galway Hurling Board chairman Miko Ryan, who has since resigned from the position, was present at a fixtures committee meeting which arranged the game.

Mullagh have already been informed that the competition controls committee of Galway Hurling Board has already proposed bans of 48 weeks on three players in relation to incidents which allegedly occurred at the end of their meeting with neighbours Loughrea.

The two players dismissed in the tense semi-final Mullagh’s Cathal Hardiman and Loughrea’s Nigel Shaughnessy have both been suspended for eight weeks. No new date for the county decider has been scheduled as the appeals process could linger for several weeks.
