A group of fine art students from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology have been invited to exhibit their work in the heart of London’s art gallery quarter.
The students, who are studying towards a BA (Hons ) in fine art (printmaking ), are currently showing their original prints at an exhibition in the RK Burt Gallery, Union Street, London, next to the Tate Modern and right in the heart of the London art gallery quarter. The show opened on October 26 and runs until tomorrow.
The exhibition showcases the different methods and techniques of printmaking from the traditional, such as linocut and etching, to the contemporary, innovative, processes of digital printmaking.
“This is an exciting and wonderful opportunity for the students to gain exposure to such a prestigious art market and to gain experience in the business of presenting an art exhibition in a professional gallery in the centre of London,” says GMIT fine art printmaking lecturer Siobhán Piercy.
“The show includes among others lithographs by GMIT student Agata Derda, relief prints by Diarmuid Purcell, screen prints by Linda Fergus and digital images by Emma Grice and Tracey Blaine all GMIT graduates.”
The celebrated artist and Royal Academician, Norman Ackroyd CBE, who has been a regular visitor to the west of Ireland as well as guest lecturer at GMIT, formally opened the show.
