The Village Nursing Care Centre will hold an information day in the coming weeks on the new Nursing Home Support Scheme. The scheme, commonly referred to as Fair Deal, was first announced by Minister for Health Mary Harney at the official opening of The Village Nursing Care Centre in February 2006.
The Nursing Home Support scheme is a new scheme of financial support for people who need long-term nursing home care. Fair Deal will replace the existing nursing home subvention scheme and will commence on October 27 2009. Under this scheme individuals will contribute 80 per cent of their assessable income and 5 per cent of the value of any assets per annum; the HSE will then pay the balance of the cost of care.
Under the Nursing Home Support scheme, residents can now choose between a registered, private, or public nursing home. An individual’s choice of nursing home is not connected in any way to the level of his/her contribution to care. The Village Care Centre is registered with the National Treatment Purchase Fund and has been accepted to participate in this scheme.
The Village information day will be attended by legal and financial representatives who will provide advice relating to the financial assessment that will determine an individual’s personal contribution to care. There will also be assistance provided for those who require help in applying for a Care Needs assessment.
