Following a rise of disturbances in the city, and a call for students to respect their neighbours, a video entitled Galway Students has been uploaded to YouTube. The two minute clip shows CCTV footage of a group of students harassing Bohermore residents early yesterday (Wednesday ) morning.
The video shows three men and a woman banging and kicking on doors as they make their way up Bohermore. While the three men stood outside one particular house kicking on the front door, the female repeatedly rang the bell. After that, the men kicked the door and several more doors along the stretch which is occupied by a nigh proportion of elderly residents.
The person who uploaded the video describes the scene as a “typical student night out in Galway city, students abusing residents at 2.30am”, while another viewer said “ No wonder the elderly are afraid. They should be brought to court, and made an example out of. Students today get away with too much.”
Ironically, a garda patrol car drove by while the group were at the doorway.
A final comment suggested that the students involved in the incident be identified, fined, and the video to be shown before the courts
Last week gardai informed the Galway Advertiser they would be increasing resources to combat anti-social behaviour from students, and they intended on dealing with them in accordance with the law. NUIG student president Donna Cummins also welcomed residents to speak with the Student Union about any disruptions caused by students.
