Referee Frank Kinneen will have endeared himself enormously to the treasurer and senior officers of the county board and will be a definite name on their Christmas card list after officiating at a senior county final which ended in a draw.
With so little between the sides, a draw was always a possibility and the longer the game went on the more likely it seemed to become. We could not hear the PA on the opposite side of the stand so we did not hear the announced injury time. However, by my stopwatch, less than one minute of injury time was played.
Sure what about it. With a large travelling party heading to New York for the crucial FBD final this weekend at an expected cost of €30,000 for the county board, any big replays are always going to be gratefully received.
Joe Kernan and his backroom team won’t be cheap to keep in diesel and aviation fuel either, and the county board will be hoping for a bumper crowd to attend the replay in order to get a few euro into the kitty for the 2010 campaign. And who can blame them for that?
