Oughterard celebrates centenary

Oughterard GAA, the second oldest club in Galway, is hosting a centenary social to commemorate the event on October 4.

The club is urging past and present, club members and non-club members, to join in the festivities which will be held in the Oughterard Community Centre.

The club has produced many great players, including Dinny Sullivan, Henry Kenny, the Keogh brothers, Kevin Clancy, and more recently, current Galway star Matthew Clancy.

The centenary social will celebrate the contribution these players have made to the club both on and off the field.

The entertainment will be provided by Discovery, Richie Kavanagh, and DJ Aidan Kenny.

Last weekend Oughterard also celebrated on the pitch when they maintained their championship momentum with a 2-09 to 1-08 victory over Carna Cashel in the delayed intermediate quarter-final at Pearse Stadium.

Carna started best with Seosaimh Seoige scoring a goal in the first 10 minutes. However Oughterard came back strongly and at half-time the teams were level, Carna 1-02 and Oughterard 0-05.

In the second half Oughterard started the stronger with Fergus Gillespie scoring Oughterard’s first goal, while Mark Kavanagh punched the ball to the net after a great build-up for Oughterards second in the 52nd minute.

Best for Oughterard were Fergus Gillespie (1-04 ), Damian O'Reilly, and Liam Moran.
