CONNECTION, AN exhibition of paintings donated to the Oncology Department at University Hospital Galway by artists from the Paint Box Studios, opens tomorrow.
Connection will be formally launched in the Art Corridor at UHG tomorrow at 12.30pm by the Galway Advertiser chairman Ronnie O’Gorman.
The ethos of the exhibition is about people ‘connecting’ to help one another. The inspiration came from a patient who wanted to make the oncology day ward a more enjoyable place to spend the long hours required for treatment.
Sinéad Kavanagh, who attends painting classes at the Paint Box, asked her friends and colleagues to donate some paintings for the ward. The response was overwhelming with more than 60 artists donating paintings to the project.
The artwork includes a selection of oil on canvas paintings, watercolour, oil on glass, pastels, mosaic, and paper collage. Doctors consider that art can play an important part in a cancer patient’s journey and it is hoped that these paintings will make that journey a little easier.
Members of the public are welcome to the launch.
