Model boat display this weekend in the Claddagh

A special model boat display will be held in the Claddagh Basin on Saturday organised by Baidoiri an Cladaig - the Claddagh Community Boat Club.

The display follows the successful Save the Claddagh Hooker Campaign undertaken by the group to raise funds for the purchase and restoration of a Claddagh hooker.

The group held a fundraising BBQ at Nimmo’s Pier and a walk from Spiddal to Galway, which has promoted the committee to hold a model boat display in the Claddagh Basin, and all model boat enthusiasts are welcome.

Baidoiri an Cladaigh, which is not funded or grant aided, but relies on fundraising, aims to encourage and train the youth of Galway to sail a traditional boat. With the help and generosity of the public the boat club believes it can achieve this in time to sail a Claddagh hooker out to meet the Volvo Round the World Yacht Race next May.

Any person or business that would like to help this worthwhile cause can %contact any of the committee members:Michael Coyne (chairman ), Nicki Dolan (vice-chairman ), Josephine O’Neill (secretary ), James Croker (treasurer ), and Ger O’Neill (PRO ). E-mail: baidoiriancladaig @gmail.com
