CIPD plans campaign of events in tune with the economic times

What a difference a year makes! With the landscape for managing business ever changing — due to the prevailing economic conditions, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD ) Western Region has put together a programme of events to run from now until April 2010.

The variety of events chosen to reflect these challenges with the overall theme of “Managing and Leading in Challenging Times’. Now more than ever businesses must be on their toes and ensure they are compliant and up to date on changes in legislation, new ideas in strategy and management techniques thus ready for the road that lies ahead.

To formally launch the programme of events the CIPD Western Region have partnered with the Galway – Mayo Institute Of Technology (GMIT ) Galway Campus, Launch and Website sponsors Quinn Healthcare and the Irish Academy Of Management (IAM ) – the official launch will take place on Wednesday September 2 at 6.30pm at the Galway Ccmpus of the G.M.I.T.

Upcoming events include ageism in the workplace, industrial relations, and the labour court, strategy in the downturn, employment legislation updates, and the ever popular Gala Dinner Dance will take place on Friday October 16 in the Clayton Hotel — an event which is sponsored this year for the eighth year running by CCP Recruitment Ltd., and when the guest MC on the night will be Alan Shortt.

Newly elected chairperson Declan Heneghan feels that the range of events will again have broad appeal across the private and public sectors, whether you are a HR practitioner, academic, student or someone who is interested in continued professional development – the events can be attended by both members and non-members of the organisation.

The launch will coincide with the Irish Academy of Management (IAM ) Conference launch which will also take place on the evening of September 2 in the GMIT and continues until September 4. The IAM conference will include talks by noted academics of national and international acclaim. Consisting of workshop, closed and plenary sessions, the conference will be chaired by Prof Michael Morley of the University of Limerick and directed by Dr Noel Harvey of the GMIT so will appeal to academics and practitioners alike, whether public or private sector and will have particular interest to students of business whether at undergraduate or post graduate level.
