Big Bag of Sticks play for Amnesty

FRESH FROM their fantastic main stage performance at the Volvo Ocean Race, Big Bag of Sticks are reuniting one more time to play a fundraiser for Amnesty International in what is guaranteed to be a packed Roisín Dubh’s tomorrow night.

Big Bag of Sticks need no introduction to their Galway fans; they were an institution in Galway and beyond in the ‘90s. They have toured Europe with artists such as The Pogues, Altan, Jack L and Liam O Maonlaí and there’s never an empty dance floor when they play their mix of reggae and rock-inspired folk music.

Having long since parted, the group only reform for special occasions and as band member and singer Caroline Stanley said, “An opportunity to support Amnesty International and to play a reunion gig for our fans and new supporters in Galway is certainly a special occasion”.

Queen Elvis, the support act on the night, will be a musical treat of a slightly more mellow nature – they are an original act from Galway and they perform a cocktail of acoustic soul folk with a twist of jazz. They have played numerous gigs both here and abroad, including The Electric Picnic last August and recently headlined the Mugello Folk Festival in Tuscany Italy.

All proceeds from this event will go directly to Amnesty International.

Tickets cost €10 and are available from www.roisindubh.net and in the Amnesty International Freedom Café 2-3 Middle Street, 091 533637.
