Newcastle man sent forward for trial on cocaine charges

A man charged with possession of cocaine and with intent to sell or supply has been sent forward for trial at the October sittings of Galway Circuit Court.

Thomas Joseph Barrett (36 ) with an address at 73 Corrib Park, Newcastle, was brought in custody before Judge Conal Gibbons at the holiday sitting of Galway District Court last Tuesday.

Barrett faces charges of possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to sell or supply at 73 Corrib Park on January 20, 2009. He was served with the book of evidence before the court sitting and he gave no reply to the charges.

Inspector Ernie White told the court that the DPP has consented to the accused being sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Galway Circuit Court commencing October 6, 2009. He added that Barrett had received High Court bail previously but that this had been revoked.

Barrett was also remanded in custody to Harristown District Court on September 4, 2009, in relation to charges which include obstruction of Garda Roland McIntyre and Garda Evelyn Barrett and possession of a knife, a balaclava, two walkie talkies, and gloves, at 73 Corrib Park on January 20, 2009.
