Clifden Community Arts Week 2009

THE CLIFDEN Community Arts Week returns from Thursday September 17 to Sunday 27 and will feature readings from such major Irish poets as Seamus Heaney and Michael Longley.

The ‘capital’ of Connemara will play host to internationally acclaimed artists including pianist Funghin Collins and cellist Christian Benda, Cherish The Ladies, comedians Colin Murphy and Adam Hills, poets Seamus Heaney and Michael Longley, and authors John Boyne and Claire Kilroy.

Seamus Heaney will give a poetry reading on Friday 18 in St Joseph’s Church. Colin Murphy, of RTÉ’s The Panel, will perform in the Station House Theatre on Thursday 17. Anúna, the a cappella choir, will appear on Saturday 19 in St Joseph’s Church.

There will be Irish trad from Cherish The Ladies in the Alcock and Brown Hotel on Tuesday 22. Funghin Collins and Christian Benda will perform in the Church of Ireland September 22.

Now in its 32nd year, Clifden is the longest running community arts festival in the country and covers all spectrums of art forms including theatre, comedy, children's shows, dance, musicals, all genres of music, exhibitions, and events.
