“I’m very sorry, your honour. I’m not drinking any more,” a man brought before Galway District Court on a charge of public drunkenness told Judge Edward Carroll in his defence.
Denis Cosgrove, 2 Dunlo Haven, Ballinasloe was found in the vicinity of the rail station in a highly intoxicated condition and was arrested for his own safety and the safety of the public.
Cosgrove has a number of previous convictions for the same offence, the last being from Tuam District Court where he received a two-month sentence in January of this year.
Judge Carroll imposed a fine of €50 and gave him two months to pay. Cosgrove assured him he was off the drink and engaging with his counsellors before leaving the court.
