No racy scenes as Galway actress lands role in The Tudors

Galway actress Tara Breathnach has landed a role in The Tudors, the racy period drama starring Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the young Henry VIII.

Tara will play a lady in waiting to Sarah Bolger’s Lady Mary in the fourth series of the historical dram which will be broadcast on TV3 next spring.

Tara began her acting career in Galway Youth Theatre and graduated from the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in 2004. She then went on to work in films with Connemara based director Bob Quinn and star as bad girl Tina O’Dowd in TG4’s Ros Na Run.

Recently Tara landed a role in The Tudors, although it is only a small part. “Small role! Big dress!” she laughs. Nonetheless she is very excited about it and about starring alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Peter O’Toole.

“We have a big court scene to shoot soon and everyone will be there,” she says. “I’m dying to be part of it. It will be lovely.”

Given that this is The Tudors which revels in reliving and reconstructing the saucy antics of the randy aristocracy that ruled 16th century England, is Tara’s virtue in danger?

“There’ll be no bosoms in my scenes,” she says. “I’ll be a lady in waiting for Lady Mary, Henry VIII’s daughter, who’s very Catholic, so I think I’ll be safe!”
