TG4 announces appointment of Laura Ní Cheallaigh as Director of Content

TG4 has announced that former Commissioning and Acquisitions Editor Laura Ní Cheallaigh has been appointed as Director of Content for a seven-year period. Laura has over 25 years’ experience as a producer, director and Commissioning Editor of Irish and English language programmes for TG4 and RTÉ.

A Commissioning and Acquisitions Editor with TG4 since 2015, overseeing a broad slate of programming across factual, entertainment, music, arts and history, she also leads the strategy and curation of the broadcaster’s acquired content.

Her work has sparked national conversation, including: Uchtú, Síle Seoige: Deireadh Tochta, PEIG, Slí na mBeaglaoich, Naíonra, Misneach, Marú inár Measc, Le Ceangal, Dessie: Glór na Bó Finne, Junior Eurovision and Meanapás: Meon Nua.

Prior to joining TG4, she built an extensive career as a Producer and Director, working across the independent production sector and within RTÉ’s Irish-language programming unit.

Her work has garnered multiple industry awards including: five IFTA awards, four Celtic Media Torc Awards, two Radharc awards, and two Gradam Chumarsáide an Oireachtais awards for programmes including: Páidí Ó Sé: Rí an Pharóiste, Ceolchuairt, Maidhm, Concerto Chaitlín Maude, The High Hopes Choir, My Father’s War, The Radharc Squad, Guth na nGael and Bean an Tí.

She was a journalism lecturer with Fiontar in DCU, and media trainer with St. Patrick’s, Coláiste Dhúlaigh and Gréasán na Meán.

She graduated with a first-class honours degree in Irish and History from Trinity College Dublin, a Higher Diploma in Applied Communications from University of Galway and a Professional Diploma in Leadership from the Irish Management Institute. She also holds a master’s degree in political communication from Dublin City University.

Laura lives in Dublin with her husband Enda and their children Sadhbh and Diarmuid.?
