Take a different

If you’re looking for a last minute sun holiday deal, but are sick of the same old Spanish resorts, why not venture to the Algarve?

The Portuguese resort is located in the southernmost region of Portugal.

It's one of Europe's favourite holiday destinations with visitors flocking there to take advantage of its glorious year round sunshine and excellent sandy beaches.

The Algarve is probably most famous for its sandy beaches, from secluded coves to miles of golden, sandy, beaches, and breathtaking cliff top views, if you’re a beach lover this is the place for you. Further inland tourists will find quaint little villages off the beaten track. Here you will get a real feel for rural life in the Algarve, and trips to these villages can be a nice breather from the hectic day to day routine of larger resorts.

But if you prefer a bit more adventure there is plenty of activities on the water. There are an abundance of waterspouts and outdoor activities if you’re looking to keep active on your holiday, not forgetting the Algarve’s world-class golf courses, and horse riding facilities.

Resorts

There are plenty of resorts to choose from in the Algarve.

Albuferia

The Albufeira resort area is a lovely area that takes in the countryside and beaches in an uncommercialised area, dotted with villas of all descriptions, and lots of superb restaurants. This is where the countryside runs down to the sea and where you can park your car right next to the beach. The Albufeira area is considered to be part of the real Algarve, and one of the less commercialised areas in the Algarve for beautiful villas.

Faro

As the administrative centre of the Algarve region, Faro is one of the favourite tourists' destination. This impressive ancient city attracts both aesthetes and historians, featuring unique exquisite architecture, as well as amazing sights. Thus, Faro in the Algarve is still surrounded by the Roman walls dating back to the ninth century, and most of its buildings were constructed hundreds of years ago.

Praia da Rocha

Praia da Rocha was the first resort to be developed on Portugal's Algarve. It now consists of numerous multi storey hotels, shops, bars, and restaurants perched on a cliff top running along the edge of the beach. As it was purpose built, it may seem to lack some of the character of the other Algarve resorts but this is more than compensated for by the beauty of the sandy beach that runs for about 2km set against the sandstone cliff.
