More than 1,000 new buildings were built in Galway in the first six months of 2009, a decrease of 33 per cent when compared to the same period last year.
The figure was revealed this week in a new survey by GeoDirectory, the company jointly established by An Post and Ordnance Survey Ireland to create and manage a database of every building in the Republic of Ireland.
The survey identified 1,035 new commercial, residential, and dual purpose buildings built across Galway between January and June, down from 1,533 for the same period in 2008. This brings the total number of buildings in Galway to 107,406 at the end of June.
