Smyth nets three titles

It was a great weekend for Mark Smyth, who netted three A titles at the 2009 Galway Lawn Tennis Club Championships, sponsored by Fitzgerald Grogan chartered accountants.

Smyth defeated Donal Hegarty in a tight and entertaining three setter in the A singles final, and partnered Pat Dillion to defeat Donal and Barry O’Donovan in the A men’s doubles final.

The third title came in the mixed final when he and partner Vanessa Sumner again defeated Donal Hegarty who was partnered by his daughter, Jennifer.

It was Sumner’s second title of the championships, having earlier defeated Claire Kenny in the ladies’ A singles. Jennifer Hegarty also had some consolation when she partnered Rita Halloran to win the ladies’ A doubles title against Nuala Schutte amd Dymphna Ormond.
