The team at M Fitzgerald’s Bar believe in giving back to the community, and are incredibly proud to share that they have raised an outstanding €7,300 for COPE Galway to support their vital work in tackling homelessness.
The fundraising efforts included taking part in the Connacht Hospitality Group Apprentice, where the talented team coordinated an artistic project to create bespoke T-shirts for tourists in Galway. This initiative allowed them to blend creativity with a cause, offering visitors a special keepsake while raising much-needed funds.
Additionally, on Friday, December 6, members of the team took part in the COPE Galway Business Leaders’ Sleep Out, spending 12 hours on the streets of Galway city. This powerful experience was designed to raise awareness about the harsh realities of homelessness, particularly during the winter months, and to generate crucial funds that allow COPE Galway to continue providing essential services.
With homelessness reaching crisis levels, COPE Galway has described this winter as particularly challenging. "The homelessness crisis is not letting up unfortunately," said Sinead Carey, COPE Galway’s head of homeless service. "This is most starkly illustrated by our accommodation services being consistently full and a more than doubling of the numbers of people availing of our day centre and outreach services. We are providing approximately 50 people with food and other essential supports daily."
"We are honoured to have played a part in supporting COPE Galway’s mission, and we extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who donated, participated, and supported our efforts," the M Fitzgerald's team said in a statement. "Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness in our city."
