Oboist, Nicholas Daniel, returns to Music for Galway leading the Britten Oboe Quartet on Tuesday, March 11 at 7:30pm, performing an eclectic programme in the beautiful acoustic of St. Joseph’s Church, Presentation Road. A Music for Galway encore will take place the following night, March 12, in association with The Platform Series at Campbell’s Tavern, Headford.
While perhaps not as well-known as the string quartet, the combination of oboe, violin, viola and cello can create the most beautiful soundscapes. The Britten Oboe Quartet will amply demonstrate this as they perform a wonderful programme that takes in a strong, nearly abstract piece by Irish composer Elizabeth Maconchy, folk influenced work by Ernest Moeran, a Danish traditional piece, and all of it bookended by two splendid Mozart masterpieces.
Make your way to either St. Joseph’s Church or Campbell’s Tavern and hear the oboe soar above the strings.
Standard tickets for Galway are €20 with concession of €18, and €10 Social Inclusion Tickets also available to full time students, asylum seekers, people in receipt of job seeker allowance and disability allowance.
