Glór Tíre, TG4’s Country Music show, returns for its 21st season on Tuesday, March 4 at 9:30pm. Mike Denver, a native of Portumna, has been a mentor on the show for most of that time, guiding and advising contestants.
“It is great to be back on Glór Tíre,” Mike Denver says. “It has been very good to me over many years because when you are doing a gig, there is always someone who will say to you, ‘I saw you last week on Glór Tíre!’, so you know it is got a big viewership. It is a great platform and everybody needs it, whether it is the contestants or established performers like me.”
Mike believes that Glór Tíre, broadcast on Ireland’s national Irish language station, TG4, and produced by Galway production company, Gael Media, is more than just a music show, it is vital to the lifeblood of Irish Country Music.
“When it comes to Irish music and Irish artists, TG4 has been a very, very big part of that and Glór Tíre is a huge part of that as well,” he says. “Facebook and Instagram are a huge part of everything, but for the audience we are playing to, local radio and TG4, are a very big part of it as well. Glór Tíre has been the backbone of Country Music in Ireland. It has been going on now for 21 years and is an important part of what we do.”
