Are you looking for a job but do not know where to start? There are several free supports available to you to help you in your search.
Whether you have just graduated, or have a few years of work experience and are looking for a job in Ireland or Europe, the Department of Social Protection (DSP ) may be able to help.
The Department of Social Protection (DSP ), also known as Intereo, organises several job fairs across the country, inviting many local and national employers to attend. These employers are looking to hire people of all ages and skills across many industries and locations. All of these INTREO (DSP ) events can be viewed and booked on Eventbrite.
INTREO job fairs
Often present at INTREO's job fairs are training providers who are there to help those looking to upskill or reskill who are attending the course, and who are interested in learning more about the courses.
To avail of this service, it is advised that you bring an up-to-date CV to the event, alongside your public service card which you will need to register for the fair. These INTREO (DSP ) job fairs also provide information for setting up your own business in Ireland and how to access available support to do so. More information is available on the INTREO website: jobsireland.ieEURES
EURES is another department within INTREO which has been designed to facilitate the free movement of workers within EU countries as well as Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Norway. EURES members include public employment services, trade unions and private employers.
These members and partners provide information, placement and recruitment services to job seekers. EURES organises both online and face-to-face events for European employers. EURES supports job seekers in their search for jobs, offering many services that are available to jobseekers.
EURES also offers:
A matching service whereby they match job seekers with jobs advertised on the EURES portal.
General and job information services for employees.
Access to information on living and working in other European countries and how to successfully set up in that country and navigate taxation, health, insurance and useful information about cultural norms when setting up in that country.
Information on access to post-recruitment assistance such as financial support for language classes and support integrating into the destination country.
Free sign-up
It is free to sign up for the EURES portal and avail of these services. Once you sign up you can then get information on employer days. Anyone based in Ireland who is hoping to move abroad can attend these employer events.
EURES will also offer support sessions for writing CVs and preparing for Interviews. EURES also provides a small stipend known as a mobility grant, to a specific cohort of job seekers but they would have to meet the EURES criteria to avail of this stipend.
Job seekers would have to consult with their local EURES officer to organise this before they secure a job abroad in one of the partner states. The EURES jobs portal allows anyone to sign up and search the hundreds of jobs available in both Ireland and Europe. Many of these employers will be present at the EURES job fairs and usually present at the fair on what they are looking for and detailing the different jobs available and what they entail. Often at these events, employers will also interview candidates on the day, and as a result, many people walk away from these events with a job offer. If you cannot attend in person, there is also the option to attend online and you could also be interviewed online.
Overall EURES and Intereo provide a lot of support to job seekers, all of which can be accessed for free. It is advised for interested job seekers to sign up early and attend these fairs, especially those who are hoping to work in another European country.
