Known for her work with Irish world music Kíla, Armstrong has been a vibrant force in Irish music for over three decades
She is renowned for her skill on the fiddle, viola, hammered dulcimer, banjo, bodhrán, and tuned percussion.
Hailing from a musical family, Dee’s artistry is deeply rooted in a rich tradition that has influenced her solo work and collaborations. Her children, Tiggy, Diarmuid, Lughaidh, and Rosie Armstrong carry on this legacy, with Diarmuid and Lughaidh contributing to her forthcoming solo album on 5-string banjo and guitar.
The album also features a stellar line-up of other musicians including Bobby Lee on acoustic guitars, Rick Epping on harmonica, Frank Tate on bouzouki, Ronan Ó Snodaigh on bodhrán, Peter Browne on accordion, and harmony vocals by Miriam Ingram and Frances Cranny.
The evening will feature original compositions from the album, which was recorded and produced at her home in County Leitrim. The collection also includes collaborations on The Prince of Laughter, co-composed with Bobby Lee, and Yon Do, a traditional piece arranged with Fraolach.
In addition to her work with Kíla, Armstrong has played a key role in shaping the band’s visual identity, designing projections, sets, and album artwork since 1991. Her creative contributions during this time include compositions for three animated feature films with the Irish studio Cartoon Saloon.
Thanks to her ability to bring together traditional Irish sounds with innovative arrangements, Armstrong is synonymous with the evolution of modern Irish music.
