A man who had a public fall-out with his mother at a hairdresser’s over a €700 debt will now have to pay a fine of €400 for public order offences.
Yaw Oppong (22 ) with an address at 10 Dun Breathnach, Ballybane, appeared at Galway District Court last Monday to face charges of threatening and abusive behaviour and failure to comply with Garda orders at Fairgreen Road on May 16, 2008. He was also charged with failure to appear in court.
Inspector Sean Glynn told the court that at 3pm an altercation took place at a hairdresser’s at Fairgreen Road. When gardai arrived they found the defendant shouting at a woman and when directed to desist and leave the vicinity he failed to do so.
Defence solicitor Adrian MacLynn said that his client had been shouting at his mother. He said that Oppong, who had been released from prison, was trying to get €700 which his mother owed him. Since the incident the relationship between the two has improved.
Judge Mary Fahy convicted and fined Oppong €400 with three months to pay.
