We include a brief survey of the Roscommon-Galway constituency, as despite returning most of the chunk of Galway East that Roscommon held until the 2023 boundary review, the major Co Galway town of Ballinasloe is still under Rossie occupation, alongside Creggs, Ballygar and Ahascragh.

Independent TD Denis Naughton is retiring, but the whole election is overshadowed by the death in October of his brother, Fine Gael candidate John Naughton, who was expected to keep the seat in the family. In 2020, Denis Naughton received a massive 31 per cent of all first preference votes, and was elected first count.
Ballinasloe-based senator, Aisling Dolan, is running for Fine Gael, as is Dympna Daly-Finn from north Roscommon. Sinn Féin’s Claire Kerrane, also from Roscommon’s north, has a major battle to keep her seat.
Ballygar-based family doctor Martin Daly is aiming to take back the seat for Fianna Fáil from Kerrane, although former Fianna Fáil TD Eugene Murphy, running as an independent, may upset that plan.
Michael Fitzmaurice of Independent Ireland, from Glinsk, Co Galway, is considered certain to be re-elected, and should attract a large vote from across the two-county constituency.
Pollsters expect: 1x II, 1x FG, 1x FF
