Gardai have issued an appeal for help in identifying a man whose body was found in the Claddagh Basin earlier this month.
The man’s body was recovered from the water at Claddagh Quay on Sunday November 17 last. Despite extensive enquiries, Gardai have yet to identify this man, and have released a CCTV image of him in Galway city centre in a bid to establish his identity.
He is believed to have been aged in his 60s, and 5ft 7 inches in height. He was of a medium build, weighing about 78 to 80kg. He had blue eyes and a full head of red/grey hair.
He had a grey full beard, while his moustache was slightly red. He was also carrying black rimmed glasses.
The man is believed to have spoken with an Irish accent.
He was wearing a grey tweed suit jacket and trousers, and a blue and white striped shirt with a flower print along the button seams and inside the collar. He was also wearing size 10 black laced Asos dress shoes.
Gardai are particularly appealing to those in the hospitality industry to consider if they recognise the man, or if a recent guest left items behind in their accommodation, as he may have been visiting Galway when he died.
“Extensive enquiries have been carried out but there has been no positive identification of the deceased to date,” said Superintendent Paudie O’Shea of Galway Garda Station. “I am appealing to owners of guest houses, landlords, hotels, hostels, B&Bs and Airbnbs to check if anybody left their premises and may have left property behind.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Gaillimh Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
