Padraig Lenihan, Aontú candidate for the General Election has said that the University Hospital carpark is lacking in size and there are not enough spaces.

He says he sees people asking for advice on where to park online and respondents saying in front of the University Quad, at the Cathedral car park, outside the Sacred Heart Church, behind the BreastCheck clinic, on Shantalla Road and various other places.

He said, “Most days there are at least a dozen cars backed up outside the car park waiting for a car to leave and a space to be freed up. This is unacceptable.”

“For the foreseeable future, patients and visitors will arrive by car. It is a gratuitous hardship for people to endure this uncertainty at a stressful time. The current petition to abolish parking charges is understandable, charges are excessive. But that does not address the fact that there simply are not enough spaces.”
