The launch of the new book by archaeology scholar and author Daniel Patrick Curley will take place at Kennys Bookshop this evening Thursday November 21 and all are welcome. The Uí Chellaig lords of Uí Maine and Tír Maine, just published by Four Courts Press, will be launched by Dr. Kenneth Coyne who will interview Curley about his new book. The event is free to attend.
Daniel Patrick Curley is a native of Taughmaconnell in south Roscommon, and a graduate of the University of Galway, with a PhD in Archaeology. He manages the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre in Co. Roscommon, and his research interests lie primarily in the archaeology and cultural heritage of Roscommon and east Galway.
The Uí Chellaig lords of Uí Maine and Tír Maine locates and reconstructs the major Ó Cellaig (O’Kelly ) lordly centres from c.1100, to the demise of the lordship around the year 1600. The work provides, for the first time, a detailed historical background for the medieval Ó Cellaig lordship, before piecing together the medieval physical environment, with an exploration of the resources and economic conditions which underpinned this inland Gaelic lordship. For information or to book a ticket for the launch at Kennys Bookshop in Liosbán on Thursday, 21st November at 6pm, visit www.kennys.ie/events or contact Kennys Bookshop (091-709350 ).
