Earlier this year, Volvo Cars announced that the fully-electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge models were being renamed to the EX40 and EC40 respectively.

According to Volvo, this new and streamlined model name standard makes it even easier for existing and new customers to distinguish between its fully electric and hybrid cars.The Volvo EX40 and EC40 slot alongside the brand's other EVs, the EX30 and EX90, as well as the ES90 which is being launched next year.

In Ireland, the single motor versions of EX40 and EC40 both start from €54,250 (including EV grant ) and are now available to order.

The twin motor variants of these models (from €71,350 ) have each received a performance software pack which increases power output by 25kW for faster acceleration, and also includes unique pedal mapping for quicker accelerator response and a unique ‘Performance’ drive mode to unlock the full 325kW.

This performance software will be offered as an optional upgrade pack via the Volvo Cars app when ordering a new car, while drivers of previous model year 2024 C40 and fully electric XC40 Recharge cars can purchase and download the software from the comfort of their homes.

The EC40 and EX40 both come with Google built-in and boast smart interior storage. A new exterior colour 'Sand Dune' has been added as an option to each with a new light interior option called 'Dawn Fusion Microtech'.

The single motor EC40 has a WLTP range of up to 476km, while the single motor EX40 has a WLTP range of up to 460km. Extended range versions of both ups the quoted range figure (and starting price ) to 576 kilometres and 569 kilometres, respectively.
