Galway Indian Community will hold its annual Diwali celebration in the Ardilaun Hotel on Saturday November 9 from 5pm onwards. In recent years, the Galway Indian Community Diwali event has grown and developed into a sparkling, authentic, fun-filled occasion for all the family, and plans for this year are for an evening to surpass all previous celebrations.
Diwali is the Indian Festival of Lights and it is celebrated all over India and by Indian communities worldwide. The Galway Indian Community Diwali celebration is an opportunity for all who love Indian traditions and culture to meet and celebrate together in Galway.
The event will begin with the lighting of lamps to symbolise the triumph of light over darkness. The guests of honour will share their thoughts on the significance and symbolism of Diwali.
Sharing a meal with friends is integral to these celebrations. As always at Diwali events, a mouthwatering Indian dinner will be served. A cultural programme will showcase the talents of local performers, with a DJ until midnight.
Galway Indian Community was established in 2006, with the aim of sustaining and passing on Indian culture and traditions to the next generation of Galwegians of Indian origin, and with the equally important objective of sharing this culture with all.
