On the heels of the reform of Oasis, Monroe’s Live will celebrate the sound of Britpop with a special night of music from genre-defining bands next Friday, September 27.
It’s all part of Monroe’s new ‘Just Because’ event nights, which will take place over the coming months.
These are nights for nostalgia, rebellion, and pure Britpop, a music which became a movement, a lifestyle, and an anthem for an entire generation.
“It’s a journey to the whole vibe that Britpop brought in the ‘90s,” DJ Corey explains. “It’s really about the summer of love that happened in the ‘90s, and the nostalgia the Oasis tour has brought back - a time when they were young, free, and having a good time. Britpop was something new, something youthful. It gave young people an identity they hadn't had for a generation or so.”
Led by ground-breaking bands, Britpop was a reaction to American grunge and gave voice to a new youth culture. The sound was loud and rebellious—with sharp lyrics and melodies combined with an attitude and swagger of its own.
Bands like Oasis, Blur, Suede, and Pulp became household names, and the rivalry between Blur and Oasis—famously dubbed the ‘Battle of Britpop’—kept fans enthralled.
And now, as Oasis make their legendary return to the scene, this ‘Just Because’ disco night is a tribute to the music that defined a decade and created a legacy.
“I will also play music with a strong female edge from bands like Sleeper, Elastica, The Cranberries, and Catatonia from that era,” continues DJ Corey.
Whether it is the roar of Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, Blur’s bouncy ‘Girls & Boys,’ or Radiohead’s introspective ‘Karma Police,’ Corey will spin a set list with the best tracks from Britpop’s finest.
