Argentinian dance artist Rocío Dominguez will premier her personal show Many Mes about loss, travel, and rebirth at the Black Box on Friday, September 13.

In this new work, Dominguez reflects on her personal experiences. Echoes of a sister’s death, the lingering wounds of a violent love relationship, and the ache of a distant home intertwine as she finds herself trapped in a relentless quest for a sense of completion. This manifests as desire for a rite of passage; a completion she needs to move on to the following step.

In Many Mes, Dominguez is joined on stage by a hologrammatic version of herself, created by visual artist Ross Ryder. This hologram acts in turns as a memory and a partner. Fellow Argentinian, music composer Ingrid Bocek has drawn on sounds from Ireland and Argentina, including sounds of water, and of spoken text, to create the performance’s soundscape.

Dominguez has been based in Ireland for a decade, collaborating with Irish dance artists including Junk Ensemble, Alexandre Iseli, Luke Murphy, Loosysmokes, and Croí Glan Integrated Dance, as well as working internationally. MANY MEs is one of three productions by the artist in a series called Steps Towards Myself, which includes works in different formats, exploring themes of home, distance, belonging, uprooting, and the journey of getting to know herself.
