Plan now for your dream honeymoon

September is the best month for honeymoon bookings. Flights and most accommodations are now on sale for the full season ahead.

The cost of a honeymoon is a major expense on top of your wedding, and you want to ensure that you get the best advice and value possible.

The team at Fahy Travel in Bridge Street have years of experience in organising honeymoons all over the world, including their own. They know how important this holiday is for you, and would be delighted to offer professional award winning service to ensure you have a truly carefree honeymoon.

Here are some tips for honeymoon planning that have not changed over the years.

Book early

Flights can get booked up a long way in advance, especially for the summer months, so once you have a wedding date decided get your honeymoon booked. Flights can be booked up to 11 months in advance and cruising up to 18 months in advance. In most cases an initial deposit of €150 per person will secure your flight price and your accommodation with the final balance due eight to 10 weeks in advance of departure.

Take your time

After all the excitement of the 'big day' you certainly won't want to be rushing off straight away. There are daily flights to most destinations worldwide, so give yourself a few days after the wedding to catch up with family and visiting relatives. If you get married on a Saturday, try to book a Monday or Tuesday flight to avoid any last minute rush. If you choose to cruise most departures are on a Saturday or a Sunday, so you can build in a couple of days beforehand.

Take it easy

Don't underestimate the physical and emotional exhaustion resulting from a hectic lead-up to the wedding and the excitement of the day itself. Make sure you factor in lots of relaxation time, especially when you first arrive, and don't bite off more than you can chew by planning a jam-packed itinerary.

The name of the game

Many brides choose to travel using their maiden name and change their passport on their return. There are many reasons for this, and be warned that it is not possible to obtain visas on a post-dated passport. It's also one less thing to sort out before the wedding and generally the easier and less complicated option, unless you're not planning on honeymooning immediately after your wedding day. Whatever you decide, remember to give the correct details at the time of booking as name changes are not allowed by most airlines.

Stopovers

If you are travelling long-haul, consider breaking your journey midway for a couple of nights, allowing you to recharge the batteries and arrive at your final destination rested. Most itineraries to the Far East, Australia and New Zealand are via Dubai and Abu Dhabi and you can break your journey for no additional charge, and you can generally stop either on the outward or return leg.

Think ahead

Pre-book as much as possible so you don't have to worry when you are away. Fahy Travel can arrange drinks packages and excursions on all cruise ships, and the team have a full programme of attraction tickets and sight seeing excursions worldwide.

Travel insurance

A comprehensive travel insurance policy is vitally important. Make sure you have adequate cover for this special holiday. Fahy Travel can arrange insurance through Accident & General and offers several levels of cover, with the option to include pre-existing medical conditions and the elderly.

Special offers

Remember to tell your travel expert at Fahy Travel from the outset that the holiday you are booking is your honeymoon. Many hotels provide special offers exclusively for honeymooners, from reduced rates and free nights to romantic dinners or spa treatments.
