Being a loser makes Mary a winner

Mary Joyce has lost a life-changing 6st 1.5lbs and has been awarded Slimming World's Woman of the Year in the Menlo Park group.

Mary, who went from a BMI of over 33 down to 20, said: “My weight impacted on so many aspects of my life - I often felt tired and had no energy. I wasn’t fit and could only walk slowly. Now I can actually jog on park runs and I love hiking and climbing mountains. I feel like a new woman – I’m happier, healthier and much more confident.”

Mary joined her local Slimming World group in January 2015 and lost 5 stone in her first year. She lost a further stone since Covid and has maintained her target weight for the last few years. She attributes her success to a change in mindset, looking at sustainable lifestyle changes rather than dieting.

“People think slimming means going hungry, yet it’s not like that with Slimming World," she said. "I love food and it’s never felt like I was on ‘a diet’. I still enjoy all my favourite meals like lasagne and roast dinners, but I’ve learned how to make small changes like removing the fat off the meat and avoiding oil when cooking.”

Maura, who runs the Slimming World group in the Menlo Park, said: “Mary's transformation is fantastic and I hope her success will inspire others. There’s a warm welcome waiting at Slimming World – with Christmas on the horizon, maybe this is the time to make those changes and form new lifestyle habits to become happier and healthier."
