Two men to face trial over bookies robberies

Two men charged in connection with the robbery of nearly €2,000 from punters at a number of bookies have been sent forward for trial.

Kenneth Bowden (27 ) with an address at Kilcornan, Clarinbridge, and Rathnafishogue, Hacketstown, Carlow, and Graham Coughlan (22 ) of Tang, Ballymahon, Westmeath, were both served with the book of evidence before the sitting of Galway District Court last Monday.

Both defendants are charged with the alleged robbery of €1,700 cash from Annette Hoare at Su2 Sports Bookmakers, Main Street, Craughwell, Galway, on January 31, 2009; robbery of €30 cash from Donnie Farragher at Oran Sports Bookmakers, Main Street, Oranmore, on January 31, 2009; and with the robbery of €200 cash from Mark Clyne at Pyramid Bookmakers, Summerfield, Claregalway, on February 2, 2009.

The court heard that that the DPP has consented to both men being sent forward for trial at Galway Circuit Court commencing July 14, 2009.
