Unique Volvo souvenir to be auctioned for charity

A unique artistic impression of the Volvo Ocean Race is being auctioned next week for a Galway charity.

Inspired by the arrival of the Volvo Ocean Race to the city, a group of women created the special quilt for inclusion in an exhibition of maritime themed patchwork in St Nicholas’ Cathedral, Galway.

Now the Naomh Muire Quilters are to auction this unique souvenir in aid of the Western Autism Society.

All members of the group, which was first set up by Bernadette Falvey in the mid 80s, live in Galway and meet weekly over the winter months in Barna. Six people contributed to the Volvo Racing, Galway Bay quilt project which was started last September and completed in April - just in time for the race stopover.

Members of the group who participated in the project are: Bernadette Falvey, Joan Colleran, Johanna Tyrrell, Mari Moran, Mary Ann Curran, and Phyllis Molloy.

The bidding closes on Friday July 10 at 5pm, and all bids can be registered online to: [email protected].
