Designers from Ireland and London are joining forces with the local Discovery Church to organise a fundraising fashion show on Wednesday July 22 at the Radisson SAS Hotel.
Entitled “Fashion For Freedom: A Life Doesn’t Have A Price Tag” the the proceeds from the event will go to Free For Life, an international charity. It rescues victims of human trafficking and builds safe houses for them in Eastern Europe, Nepal, India and Africa.
General admission tickets are €40 while VIP tickets cost €50 and are available from Blush, Cross Street, Bellissimo and the Radisson SAS Hotel.
Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world today, according to a spokesperson for the organisers of the event.
“An estimated 27 million people are victims of human trafficking at this very moment. Thirteen million of these are under the age of eighteen. Between €23 and €25 billion was made off of the selling of human beings last year alone. Dr Phil McGraw of the popular American television program Dr Phil has stated that the human trafficking enterprise makes ‘more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined.’ Thousands of innocent boys, girls, women and men are trafficked into the sex trade and forced prostitution daily. Helpless and alone, victims of human trafficking have no escape. This is the face of modern day slavery.”
Designers exhibiting at the event include Zoe Boomer, Maria Grachvogel, Eilis Boyle, Helen James, Eileen Shields Shoes, Maria Cárdenas, Claire Garvey, Love Your Shoes and Jennifer Rothwell.
Hosts for the event will be dancer/model/actor Criscilla Crossland and American singer/ songwriter/reality TV competitor Coffey Anderson. Criscilla Crossland, one of the most sought after dancers in Hollywood who has toured and performed with Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, P. Diddy among others, will perform with her dancers.
There will be great raffle prizes, including pieces by world famous milliner Philip Treacy, Charles Anastase and Hope and Benson. There is even an internship with London designer, Maria Grachvogel for auction.
“Fashion For Freedom: A Life Doesn’t Have A Price Tag is a community event to make a difference internationally” says James Earle, one of the event coordinators. “It is not about our church or the specific designers. It is about a group of people who see a problem of epidemic proportions and say enough is enough, we have to make a difference.”
