Woman to go on trial for harassment and nuisance calls

A 32-year-old Galway woman, charged with harassing two people over an eight and four month period and with making nuisance phone calls, has been sent forward for trial.

Nora Devaney with an address at 32 Glenvale Court, Clybaun Road, appeared before Galway District Court this week charged with harassing Feithinn Gorman on unknown dates between August 2, 2007, and April 4, 2007, and harassing Dolores Kelly on unknown dates between December 15, 2007, and April 3, 2008, at Galway city and surrounding areas, under Section 10 and 6 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the State Act.

She was also charged with persistently using a phone to cause annoyance, inconvenience, and needless anxiety to another on dates between August 2, 2007, and April 4, 2008, at 101 Renmore Park, Galway, under Section 13 (1 ) of the Post Office Act.

The court heard that the DPP had consented to the accused being sent forward for trial to Galway Circuit Court on October 7, 2008.

A bail bond of €200 was extended to these charges. Inspector Mick Coppinger asked that a condition be imposed on the bail for the defendant “not to contact any witnesses by telephone” and “have no contact with the complainant”.

Legal aid was also granted.
