Renowned Californian folk and blues artist Matthew “M” Ward, is known for his versatile, solo work and his wide-ranging collaborations with the likes of Zooey Deschanel for the duo She & Him, and as a member of celebrated band, Monsters of Folk.
The acclaimed singer songwriter, instrumentalist and producer will bring his new tour to Monroe’s Live on Tuesday, May 21, at 8pm for a fully seated show.
Following the release of his album, Supernatural Thing last year, his stripped, paired back style and eclectic song choices are a natural follow on from his earlier Transistor Radio record almost two decades on, albeit with more voices and more moods.
It is this raw, authentic nature of his work that has endeared him to audiences worldwide since he first began his journey as a college student strumming chords.
Ward's solo discography reads like a roadmap of American music evolution. His third album, Transfiguration of Vincent, a poignant tribute to his friend Vincent O'Brien, highlighted his mastery of folk and blues.
Always inspired by the simplicity of radio, his latest offering is a tour de force that brings together his core ethos, honest introspection, and dream-like imagery with a retro vibe.
In 2006, Ward ventured into fresh territory, forming the indie pop duo She & Him with actor Zooey Deschanel, showing that his adventurous, collaborative spirit continues.
