Sunday’s Connacht Senior Football Final is going to attract a huge crowd to Pearse Stadium in Salthill, and the nearby Blackrock Cottage restaurant is also bracing itself for an influx of Galway and Mayo supporters.
The award-winning restaurant - recently named ‘Best Restaurant in Galway’ at the Restaurant of Ireland awards - is inviting fans to come and soak up the atmosphere before and after the match, and enjoy some of its famous hospitality.
Blackrock Cottage is situated at the end of Salthill Prom, near the iconic Blackrock Diving Tower and just a short stroll from Pearse Stadium.
The restaurant is situated in a restored famine-era cottage and has been winning rave reviews from diners and food critics over the last 18 months.
It will be open from 8am until 8pm on Sunday.
Galway Bay FM will be broadcasting live from Blackrock Cottage before the match with a number of former Galway and Mayo players lined up to chat to Ollie Turner to help set the scene for the big game, which throws-in at 4pm.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming Galway and Mayo supporters to the Cottage on Sunday,” said Mathieu Teulier, General Manager of Blackrock Cottage.
“We’re open from 8am for breakfast and will be serving our all-day brunch menu from 12.30pm, along with lunch. It’s the perfect place to visit for a bite to eat before supporters head off to the match. They can also walk The Prom and enjoy the views from our courtyard.
“After the game, we’re going to be still serving from our brunch menu and we also have some lovely ‘Sunday Roast’ specials lined up from around 5pm until we close around 8pm. So our advice is, rather than sit in traffic when the match is over, why not pop down to Blackrock Cottage and have some dinner before you head home?
“The views are amazing, the food is fabulous, and it’s a lovely, relaxed atmosphere for people to come and chat and enjoy a nice meal before they leave Salthill,” he added.
Blackrock Cottage’s executive head chef, Martin O’Donnell, who will also be on duty on Sunday, describes his menu as ‘traditional dishes with a modern twist’.
“It’s an iconic location, and we’re serving the quality food that people want, using quality local produce” he added. “And people really feel they get value for money at the Cottage.
“The menu is very modern and creative, with an Irish sense, and it’s quality over quantity for us.”
Blackrock Cottage will also be serving a kids’ menu on Sunday while for anybody lucky enough to have a designated driver on duty, there is an extensive wine list to choose from along with a selection of non-alcoholic drinks.
Blackrock Cottage is open on Sunday from 8am until 8pm.
