Experience Kiltimagh like never before with the Velorail Experience

An outdoor recreation activity that is the first of it's kind in Ireland, the Velorail Experience in Kiltimagh, County Mayo offers visitors the opportunity to tour the old railway line via 'railbikes' - pedal powered carts.

Operating out of the restored Kiltimagh Station, the Velorail Experience allows for a semi-independent journey along the now defunct old railway line. Participating groups are assisted by the facility's staff who explain how to operate the railbikes, before embarking on their journey along the old railway line. Offering a choice of four routes from Kiltimagh Station to Cill Aodain, Kinaffe, Cuiltybo or Murneen, participating groups are free to select their route and travel at their own pace.

What to expect

Railbikes are designed to accommodate all members of a family or other group regardless of their ability so long as there are at least two reasonably fit adults to pedal the bikes. A physical activity which requires a 'moderate level' of ability, each group must have a 'lead rider', who is over the age of 18. The second rider must be over the age of 16. Both riders must have the endurance to be able to propel the rail bike for the duration of the journey.

Each route is approximately nine kilometres in length, and can be completed in approximately 75 minutes.

Described as a physical activity which requires a 'moderate level' of ability, each group must have at least two adults; one over the age of 18 to take the role of 'lead rider', and one over the age of 16 to assist in propelling the railbike for the duration of the journey. There are three different types of railbikes available; four-seaters, five-seaters and two-seater carts (which can be adapted to carry a standard sized wheelchair ).

Designed to be 'undertaken at a leisurely pace', both the north and south routes cross calm, rural landscapes and farmlands, making it a prime 'bonding' activity for groups of all kinds.
