Cregmore Claregalway FC has launched a community-driven fundraising inititiative to establish a new home for its more than 750 players.
From its humble beginnings as a kickabout between family and friends in the late 1980s, Cregmore Claregalway FC has developed into a pillar of the County Galway community. With more than 30 teams participating in the Galway FA leagues and more than 750 players, ranging in age from five to 50-plus years and including a strong female presence, the club has grown to play a major role in the local sports scene.
Now, the club has announced plans to find and finance a permanent home. In addition to serving teams’ and players’ expanding demands, this new facility will serve as a focal point for the communities of Cregmore, Claregalway, Carnmore, and Turloughmore.
“We’re not just building fields; we’re fostering futures,” said Kieran Garvey, club registrar. “Your support could help lay the groundwork for a legacy where our youth can flourish. We are confident that we have the support and can make it happen.”
The vision is to provide a state-of-the-art soccer facility with a full-sized Astro pitch, advanced training areas, top-quality grass pitches, and a welcoming clubhouse with essential amenities and parking. This will be a place where local talent can thrive and where the community can gather for events on and off the field. The club is confident that once land can be secured for the project, they will be able to deliver this with the help of local and national support.
A night at the dogs
To kick off the fundraising efforts, the club is hosting a night at the dogs on Friday, May 3. This exciting event, combined with the Players’ Awards Night and a monster raffle, aims to raise over €50,000. These funds are crucial as they will lay the foundation for the new facility.
“Seeing our club grow has been incredible,” said Caroline O’Shea of the fundraising committee. “This new facility means so much — not just as a venue for matches but as a lasting home for our kids to develop. Every ticket you buy, every event you attend, helps us get closer to this dream.”
The club are also asking residents in the communities of Cregmore, Claregalway, Carnmore, and Turloughmore to get involved and support the fundraising efforts by sponsoring an event, purchasing raffle tickets, or simply spreading the word.
